Unfortunately when we got back to London our Les Mis plans fell through because the performance was sold out, so we had to
rapidly formulate a back-up plan. China town! It was lots of fun to
walk around in, and we eventually chose a restaurant based on the fact that the
proprietor/manager stood on the street and captured us as we looked at the
menu, beckoning us upstairs and insisting that he would give us a ‘Vely good
deal…the best deal.’
On a side note, every restaurant in England is
required by law to have their menu posted/displayed on the outside of the
building. I LOVE this concept! You are
able to browse prices and dishes, and compare them to their neighbors. None of this entering the establishment,
sitting down and then getting sticker shock from the menu. None of this sitting down, perusing the
available food choices and thinking ‘great, I can eat
nothing here. Unless I want my insides on my outsides and my
outsides and fiery pains to plague my next 24 hours.’ So, fabulous LAW. Luv it.
Ergo, our Chinatown process was perusing the
menus displayed on stands in front of restaurants lining the streets. (All of
which seemed to be named some variation of dragon “Golden Dragon” “Dragon
Restaurant” “Peking Dragon” etc etc etc.)
Inside the restaurant it was pretty sketch (filthy carpets, so-so
linens) but the food was ok-good. Not awful, not fab.
Reluctant to call it a night we wandered around China town and
the west end-but the shops were closed, and, already having eaten and not about
to go pub crawling, we were at bit at a loss. Until we spotted a building with
people streaming in and out and music pumping loudly up and down the block, at
10 o’clock at night. Interested, we approached, only to discover that it was
the London
M&M store! Laughing delightedly we headed on in.
And let me tell you, Club M&M was a happening place!
Crowded with camera happy tourists and helpful employees, you could purchase
every type of M&M apparel and souvenir imaginable. And some that went far beyond anything even I
could imagine. Raucous, cheery dance music pumped through the store, filling it
with action and fun, making it a magical place in London town. And as you can see, there were
more than enough picture opportunities to keep Letty happy.

Club M&M, who
knew. When we finally left we figured there was no way to top that experience,
parted ways and Rich and I headed home.
It was a
long and eclectic day
of trekking; from British royal palaces, to ancient druidic ruins, to a bastion
of scholarly endeavors- onward to mingle with the immigrant population and
finally cap it off with quintessentially American Club M&M.
Oh, and we can't forget the gallery of famous M&Ms....can you name them all?
